Sun Spot 1010 Animation and Coronal Hole

On January 4th 2008 a reverse-polarity sunspot (about the size of the earth) appeared, signaling the start of Solar Cycle 24.

Solar activity waxes and wanes in 11-year cycles. Currently at the solar minimum, the new Solar cycle is on it's way to Solar Max. We can expect this peak in solar activity around 2011 or 1012.

regarding a solar wind stream which should reach the earth on January 17th, 2009. Here's the latest image from SOHO showing the coronal hole. The circle indicates the area of the coronal hole.
